Larkpine Lending Group, an Iowa City, IA small-business funding service, offers a dental office loan calculator: enter an amount, a term and a quoted annual rate to see the monthly payment and total repaid for a fixed-payment loan, useful for practice purchases, operatory equipment and remodels. It shows arithmetic, not offers.
How to use the dental business loan calculator
- Enter the amount you expect to borrow, after any down payment or seller financing.
- Enter the term in months.
- Enter the annual rate from a quote, or try several to see the range.
- Read the monthly payment and the total repaid.
The calculation assumes equal monthly payments and leaves fees out. Real offers can include origination fees, different payment frequencies or balloon payments; ask each partner for the full schedule.
Dental office loans the calculator fits
- Buying a practice: the term loan portion, after seller financing
- Adding an operatory or imaging equipment
- A remodel or move to a larger space
Equipment can also be leased; a lease payment is calculated differently. See equipment financing and the term loan page.
Worked example (illustration only)
A dentist borrows $250,000 over 120 months at an annual rate of 9% entered for the example. The calculator returns a payment of about $3,167 a month and a total repaid of about $380,000. At 84 months, the payment rises to about $4,022 and the total falls to about $338,000. The 9% figure is an input for the arithmetic, not a quote.
Compare the payment with the added collections the purchase or operatory is expected to bring in. Partners do the same test.
Dental clinic loans and dentist practice loans: what else to compare
- Fees added to the amount or taken from it
- Prepayment terms
- Whether the payment changes after an introductory period
- Collateral and personal-guarantee clauses
